Vet costs in Delhi NCR: what to expect

A single dog rabies dose usually costs ₹350 – ₹900 at a private clinic, and a combination shot (7-in-1 or 9-in-1) ₹570 – ₹1,800. A full puppy series comes to about ₹2,500 – ₹8,000, depending on whether rabies and kennel cough are included. For cats we found one published price, about ₹1,000 for a core three-in-one dose at an NGO clinic, so ask a private clinic for its quote. Some government clinics and NGO drives give the rabies shot for ₹50 to ₹100 or free.

Private clinics in Delhi NCR typically charge ₹4,000 – ₹13,000, and premium hospitals that price an all-inclusive package charge more. NGO and government programmes are cheaper, ₹1,000 – ₹5,000, but are often limited to certain days or to strays. Ask what is included: tests, medicines, a collar and a follow-up visit all change the total.

They are cheaper, and some give vaccines free or for a token amount, but they can be crowded, have shorter hours and offer fewer services. Of the 15 Delhi government veterinary hospitals on Google Maps with 20 or more reviews, ratings run from 3.0 to 4.5, with a median of 3.7. Check the hospital's hours and whether it treats your pet's problem before you go.

It depends on the policy, so read the fine print before you decide. Pet insurance in India is still new, and plans differ on what they exclude (often pre-existing conditions and routine care), how long you wait before cover starts, and how much they pay per claim. Guides put a clinic consultation somewhere between ₹300 and ₹1,000. In Delhi NCR, the 65 doctors who report a fee to us charge ₹400 to ₹600 for the middle half, with a median of ₹500. Emergency visits and specialists cost more, and an online consultation is usually ₹199 to ₹499. Most clinics do not publish a fee, so ask when you call.

For vet care alone, one published guide puts a healthy adult dog's routine year (a check-up, boosters and deworming) at ₹2,000 – ₹4,500. A puppy's first year costs more because of the vaccine series and neutering. Food, grooming and insurance are on top, and a single emergency can cost more than the rest of the year, so many owners keep a separate cushion.

A clinic's rent and location, the experience of the doctor, whether it runs its own lab and scanner, and the hour you arrive all move the price. So does your pet: a larger animal needs more anaesthetic and medicine. Finally, a package can bundle tests, medicines and a stay that another clinic bills separately, so two quotes are only comparable when you know what each one includes.
